This surely isn’t the only blog on How to Be a Better Blogger. And it surely isn’t the only blog on How to Make Money Blogging.

As a matter of fact, there’s already a whole lot of both scattered all around the web.

But like so many successful bloggers before, I started this blog with a vision of it being the type of place I myself would want to visit every day.

And this is the type of content I wanted to read:

No-Nonsense Money Making Tips for Smart Bloggers

Now, there are a lot of blogs and websites (and courses) out there that promise to teach you money-making tips, but for many of them, the nonsense factor is pretty darn high.

And to be frank, the money making part of blogging was of vital interest to me, too. I had no desire to be a completely philanthropic “gentleman blogger”, or a blogger-of-leisure, as it were (yeah, I just made those terms up). ;-)

Much like the next guy or gal, I needed to put food on the table and I wanted to build some financial security for myself and my family. And since 1999, doing business online was the primary way I’d chosen to do it.

Another key for me was the part about “Smart Bloggers.” And I’m not talking IQ-test smart here. For me, being a smart blogger is more about being a certain type of person, about holding certain beliefs, and about taking a certain approach to blogging and to business.

Here are some of my thoughts about what being a Smart Blogger is all about.

  • Smart bloggers… are focused on quality over quantity— creating quality content, attracting quality traffic, building quality relationships.
  • Smart bloggers… know that freely sharing your experience, your expertise, and a little bit of yourself with the world is the best way there is to start from zero and to build up a profitable business online.
  • Smart bloggers… know that there’s nothing wrong with a little self-promotion (in fact, they know it’s an essential ingredient of success) and that there’s nothing wrong with earning an honest profit in return for delivering real value to people.
  • Smart bloggers… work on developing specific strategies to profit from the hard work they put into developing a high quality blog and high quality content.
  • Smart bloggers… know that a blog isn’t a business; it’s way to communicate, to deliver value, and to interact. (But a blog can be a great foundation to a build a successful business on.)
  • Smart bloggers… also know that leveraging other communication channels (like video, podcasts, social media, and even email) provides an opportunity to extend their reach and multiply their value (and income).
  • Smart bloggers… know that sacrificing long-term assets, like credibility and relationships in the pursuit of short-term gains is foolish and self-defeating.
  • Smart bloggers… know that real passion is always contagious and invigorating and that artificial hype is ultimately exhausting and enfeebling (see the never-ending stream of get-rich-quick schemes that populate the internet).
  • Smart bloggers… know that nothing is valued (and rewarded) on the internet today as much as being real, being authentic, and actually giving a damn about your fellow human beings.

Well… there you have it. That’s the underlying philosophy we have at Blog Profit Center, and the no-nonsense money making and business building tips we deliver are all delivered with this context in mind.

We hope… I hope that you’ll stay a while, have a look around, and leave a comment when you see something you like or find valuable (or even when you see something you don’t). And of course, make sure you come back and visit often. :-)

I hope to one day be as authentic as Chris Brogan, as passionate as Gary Vaynerchuk, and as insightful as Seth Godin. Though surely an impossible goal, I think it helps me be a better person and a better business person to try to find those qualities within myself and to bring them forth for the benefit of my readers, my customers, and my clients.
